Green Central Asia

"Green Central Asia: Regional Initiative on Climate and Security in Central Asia and Afghanistan" is commissioned by the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam - German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Potsdam-Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and the German-Kazakh University (DKU).

This initiative builds on the results of the Berlin Process whose aim since 2008 was to foster transboundary water management in Central Asia.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Conflict prevention and strengthening transboundary cooperation on the impact of  climate change in Central Asia;
  • Establishment of a regional political dialogue on questions of environmental and climate-related security risks;
  • Building capacities with regard to environmental governance.
